Meeting with MCDOT

Thursday October 1 – 6:30 – 9:00 PM Kensington Parkwood Elementary School Room 105

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) recently sent a revised plan to both Kensington Estates Civic Association (KECA) and the Parkwood Residents Association (PRA) in its ongoing efforts to respond to neighborhood concerns about pedestrian and vehicle safety on Parkwood Drive. As a next step, KECA and PRA are hosting a joint meeting with MCDOT, which residents can attend in person or virtually (details above this paragraph).
Meeting purpose is for MCDOT to answer questions andgather feedback, and will be held in two parts:
  • 6:30 to 7:00 PM, Check in and time to view layout of plan in person..
  • Beginning at 7:00 PM, Virtual meeting begins with presentation of the overall Parkwood Drive concept plan (revised #94548 plan). In
response to feedback to the original concept plan, 4 speed humps were included in the revised proposal.
    • One of the requirements for installation of speed
humps is that MCDOT hold a community meeting specific to locating speed humps in a neighborhood.
    • If community sentiment appears favorable, then concurrence forms must be completed to show that residents directly (70% on that road segment) and indirectly (50% elsewhere) affected by the speed humps agree with installation.

The remainder of the meeting will consider the plan as a whole.

Please see PRA website, parkwoodresidents.org, for detailed
information on the plan. You can write comments and
questions for unattributed submission to MCDOT at

We will begin with KECA business, including annual elections. We invite all residents of KECA to consider running for KECA board and to lead/serve on committees! Board positions: President, Vice-President,
Treasurer, and Secretary.

We will update www.keca20895.org soon with position and committee descriptions for neighbors’ consideration. We have been incredibly fortunate over many years to have a few of our neighbors serve, and in a few
cases, stay on to lead in board and committee positions. At this critical time in civic life, we encourage others to volunteer in these very rewarding roles. They require focus and energy only intermittently throughout the year, but
reap major benefits to your and your neighbors ‘well-being!
Longtime past and current board and committee members
are here to support new volunteers.

Montgomery County has a long and strong tradition of civic assns. (montgomerycivic.org), with KECA a member (3 delegates).

If you are interested in any of these options, message keca20895@gmail.com by Oct 5.

We will entertain proposals for by-laws addressing committee
formation, membership and advocacy because of a variety of concerns expressed on our listserv and at ad-hoc community gatherings in recent months.

The meeting will conclude with any feedback or comments from the October 1 KECA and PRA joint meeting with MCDOT and other related topics.
